Our team picked up a win in their first playoff game last night against Grove City Christian. We didn’t play the cleanest game; but, we were able to win comfortably and advance. Advance and win is the important thing this time of year and we did that so now we will focus on Wellington. Andi led us with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Payton added 11 points 7 rebounds 6 assists and a couple steals. Abi chipped in 8 as well. We play again Saturday at 1 at home! Come support us!

Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Varsity Basketball beats Shekinah Christian School 63 – 57

Your Lady Lions are conference CHAMPIONS! They knocked off Shekinah last night at home in a hard earned victory on senior night. It was a thrilling game as Shekinah came in with only 1 loss in the conference and we entered the contest with 1 loss as well. However, with our loss coming against Shekinah, that meant the winner would be the conference champion. It was also a special evening as we celebrated 7 lady lions being seniors and it was those seniors that led us to a big win. However, due to all the hoopla we started the game a little tense and Shekinah jumped out to an early lead before we settled down and ended the first quarter down 14-13. In the second we got out to a five point lead and had multiple opportunities to stretch the lead out but could not capitalize so we went into the locker up by 4. To start the third our ladies really started to attack and stretched our lead to 14 by the end of the quarter. Andi dominated that period with 14 points. But, to Shekinah’s credit they kept battling and closed the gap with some aggressive driving and scored 10 points from the free throw line in the last frame. Never the less, our ladies prevailed with crucial baskets and walked away with a win! Of our 63 points last night 62 came from senior players. Katie Keiser had 6 points and hit to momentum shifting 3 point baskets and played stellar defense all evening. Abi English played consistently all evening and made some clutch buckets in the fourth to hold Shekinah at bay, she had 9 points and 12 rebounds. Her effort on the boards was incredible as she had all 12 rebounds on the defensive glass and prevented Shekinah from getting second opportunities. She also chipped in 2 blocks. Her sister Andi was a force inside all evening and punished Shekinah with her work on the low block. She had 31 points and 13 rebounds for a monster double double, they didn’t have an answer for her when she was able to catch the ball. Payton Hartshorn rounded out our senior brigade with an incredible triple double of 16 points 12 assists 12 rebounds and 4 steals. Payton was a work horse tonight as she just kept attacking and creating opportunities for her teammates. She did a superb job and I was very proud of our team’s effort and composure all evening.

Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Varsity Basketball beats Northridge 68 – 41

After playing Friday night we turned our attention to Northridge Saturday afternoon and played a thorough game to win by 27. I was extremely happy with our ladies this afternoon as they were in attack mode from the tip and really put Northridge on their heels. However, we digressed in the second before gathering ourselves and taking control in the third. When our team is engaged on defense we can really take control of a game and we showed that this afternoon in the second half. Then in the fourth quarter we sealed the deal by outscoring them 19-7. Andi English continued her momentum from Friday night and dominated the middle with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Abi English was strapped with fouls all game but showed how impactful she can be on the court by contributing 10 points 6 rebounds 3 assists and 2 steals. Avery Adkins continued to impress on defense and on the glass as she had 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Katie Keiser played with great grit and added 5 points and 4 rebounds. While Payton Hartshorn showed her incessant energy by attacking Northridge all afternoon to the tune of 24 points 5 assists 8 rebounds and 2 steals. She plays the game with incredible energy and effort and has the ability to overwhelm opposing team’s guards with her constant attack mentality. We will be back in action Tuesday night at home against Shekinah for our senior night. Come out and support our seniors!

Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Varsity Basketball beats Delaware Christian School 53 – 37

Our GCA Lady Lions played a league game at Delaware Christian on Friday night and walked away with a hard fought win. I was pleased with how we started the game and our defensive intensity. We did much better at containing Lyssi Snouffler, who is an incredible player for Delaware. She had 29 against us last time we played but Andi English did a great job of bodying her up and making it difficult on her to score. Andi English played splendidly on defense but the high point of the game was when she scored her 1,000 career point on a fast break lay up in the second quarter! She has been stellar all season inside for us and does so many things well, she definitely earned that achievement. She is a joy to coach and what she has accomplished in her four years competing at GCA is second to none. She ended the game with 18 points and 4 rebounds. Her sister, Abi English, also had a strong game with 10 points 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Avery Adkins played well from the guard position. She has really stepped up her game and added another scoring option for our team; but, her most impressive improvement has been her work on defense. She can be such a difference maker with her athletic ability as she had 5 points 3 assists 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Rounding out our evening was Payton Hartshorn’s dominant play from her point guard position. She was relentless attacking the hoop and creating opportunities for herself and her teammates. Her defense was also a big difference maker as she pressured their guards into constant turnovers. She has 16 points 3 assists and 6 steals.

Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Varsity Basketball beats Johnstown HS 41 – 25

The Lady Lions played last Saturday against Johnstown at home and walked away with a quality non-conference win. Our defense was exception all game and held Johnstown to 5 points in each quarter except the third. We did a good job of applying pressure and forcing them into some tough shots and then we did well at limiting them to one opportunity with our defensive rebounding. Abi and Andi English were exceptional on the glass and prevented them from having any success on the inside. They also did well at drawing fouls and creating opportunities inside and outside. Abi led us with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Andi had a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Payton Hartshorn did well at running the show from the point and had 4 steals to go with 6 points and 4 assists. Avery Adkins has also been playing well and she added a nice boast offensively with 7 points 2 assists and 5 rebounds. We will be back in action Tuesday night at home against Gahanna Christian.

Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Varsity Basketball beats Northside Christian 64 – 27

Last night the Lady Lions competed in a conference game at Northside Christian. Our offense was rolling from the beginning of the game and we put up 27 points in the first quarter. Payton Hartshorn and Andi English got us going early as Payton created some steals and run outs and had 10 in the first. Andi also had all her points in the first quarter and worked the low block really well to add 14 points. It was a fun game as our offense was firing and a lot of ladies were able to find themselves in the box score. We had three girls score 7; Abi English, Alyssa Goehring, and Olivia Close. Alyssa also did extremely well on the glass with 9 rebounds. Olivia played really well off the bench and showed her ability to hit some jumpers; I have been pleased with her development this season. Sarah Hill added 6, Avery Adkins and Katelyn Marczewski each threw in 5. The JV ladies are back in action tonight at home starting at 6 and the varsity is back in action Saturday at 2! Come support!

Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Varsity Basketball beats Tree Of Life Christian School 51 – 35

Last night our Lady Lions competed in conference match up at Tree of Life Christian. Our ladies came in to the contest focused and started the game well. We jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. I was proud of our defensive rotations and ball movement on offense. Normally we take some forced shots that aren’t necessary; but, I think the ladies really moved the ball well and found the open girl for easy looks all evening. It was fun basketball and I look forward to the rest of the week! Andi English lead us with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Abi English had 9 points and 7 rebounds. Alyssa Goehring added 6 points and 9 rebounds.
